Last Sunday the little country church I preach at had it’s annual chili supper. I baked several pies for the bake sale, one for Dave, and one for some friends. Dave requested a blueberry/apple pie so I made three of those, one blueberry and one apple. I used the blueberries I picked earlier this summer and apples from a local apple orchard and winery, the Maiden Rock Winery & Cidery.
I used a basic apple pie recipe for the blueberry apple pie and a basic pie crust recipe – here is the filling recipe if you’d like to give it a try.
Blueberry Apple Pie
- 2 cups baking apples
- 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries (mine were partcially frozen)
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 2 tbsp lemon juice
I used a nine inch pie pan and used the butter to dot the top of the ingredients before I placed the top crust on it. I baked it in a 450 over for 15 minutes – this helps prevent the crust from becoming soggy then I baked it for another 20 minutes at 350. Let me know how yours turns out if you give it a try. As usual here are some photos – enjoy and till next time craft on!
