fun and beauty in our winter wonderland

Last week my husband, Dave, and I found a new hiking path near our home that goes out to the edge of Maiden Rock a 400 foot cliff that overlooks Lake Pepin and scenic Hwy 35. It is said that it is called Maiden Rock because an Indian maiden who wanted to marry someone other than the person her family had arranged for her to marry jumped off the cliff in order to escape that marriage. A very permanent solution to a, perhaps, temporary situation!

It was a nice hike out to the edge once there we enjoyed the beautiful view (we were on the WI side looking over the river to the Mn side). We also had some fun – you’ll notice a picture of Dave laying on the ground pretending to be dead in an effort to get a nearby eagle to come closer so I could get a better photo, alas it did not work. He or she just stayed in the tree eventually taking flight out over the lake. Then there is me – the pictures were suppose to look like I was falling off the cliff however it doesn’t quite appear to be so. Enjoy and till next time craft on.
